House Extension Project in Kent

House Extension Foundations in Kent

Earlier this month, GWF Groundworks were working on new house extension foundations in Kent to excavate the foundations, and remove all of the excess earth.

Foundations are one of the most important aspects when building an extension, as without them your whole project could go off plan, so ensuring that they are prepared for, and laid, correctly is integral if you want your build to go smoothly.

Fortunately, on this extension, there was good access to the back of the house, which enabled us to excavate quickly and with minimal of disruption, which are always two qualities that our clients are happy with!

Potential drainage issues

Whilst the regulations for residential foundations are generally straightforward, attention always has to be paid to drainage, particularly with an extension to an existing property where the existing plans are not always 100% reliable, and where the new build is over the top of the existing drains.

In this instance, the drains did run partly under the house extension foundations so they needed to be re-routed accordingly, which is nothing unusual for us, but was something that we had highlighted to the owner and building inspector before we commenced working on the property.

Once the excavation and drainage had been completed, we simply had to return to pour the concrete.

The completed project

All works were completed in 7 working days, including waiting for the building surveyor to visit, which we believe is a fantastic turnaround, with a happy client at the end of it.
