East Sussex Excavation and Foundations

East Sussex Excavation and Foundations

GWF Groundworks have been working on some East Sussex excavation and foundations on a residential property which is going to be having an extension added to it.

This extension is going to allow the homeowners to extend their kitchen and increase the footprint of their dining room, which is a very common way of improving and adding value to your home.

Once the extension is completed GWF Groundworks will be returning to landscape the garden for them.

Here we look at what excavation and foundations involve, and why they are a major part of building a new home, or extending your current one.

What is excavation?

Excavation is the process which takes place to remove soil so that new foundations can be laid down, and can require both heavy operating equipment, and skilled operators, depending on the size of the job.

Not only does this involve digging up soil to whichever depth is required, and moving it away from the area, it also includes checking that the soil is firm and compact,

How important are foundations?

Despite being hidden from view, foundations are a vital part of any building structure, and the depth and width of them must be calculated very accurately to ensure that they meet the correct standards.

If the foundations have not been laid correctly, this will affect the stability of the building, as this is the base that it all sits on, and any slight mistake could end up having a detrimental effect on the whole build.

Commonly, foundations are created using a layer of concrete, topped with blocks up to floor level, and then the material being used to form the external cladding of the building can be used from that point upwards.

Now that you have a bit more information about what this East Sussex excavation and foundations project involves, it might be that you would like to hire GWF Groundworks to help you, or that you require a few more facts first.
